SPIEGEL RAISES OVER $30,000

Gaithersburg, MD -- Today Ryan Spiegel's campaign finance entity filed its annual report with the State Board of Elections, declaring more than $30,000 raised from more than 200 contributors.   Spiegel is a prospective candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 17, which includes Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Garrett Park.

"This incredible early outpouring of support is both very humbling and very encouraging," said Spiegel, an attorney and Democratic activist preparing to run if a seat opens up in District 17.   "While I have tremendous respect for the Democratic leaders of our district, it is important to begin organizing my campaign effort in the event of an open seat for the September 12 primary election."

Spiegel explained that he will focus his campaign on the three pillars of Education, Public Safety, and Transportation & the Environment.   "My parents, teachers, and religious leaders taught me to believe in the importance of service to others.   I will bring my passion, my work ethic, my integrity, and my legal skills to the task of representing the people of District 17."

Total receipts reported for Friends of Ryan Spiegel were $30,270.76, including loans and in-kind contributions, from 215 separate contributors.   The entity was established on July 11, 2005.

Ryan Spiegel is an attorney at the international blue-chip law firm of Winston & Strawn.   A graduate of both the University of Maryland and Stanford Law School, where he was an award-winning student leader in various service and political organizations, Spiegel dedicates substantial time to pro bono work.   Currently, he is the Chair of Montgomery County's Victim Services Advisory Board and the Democratic Vice Chair for Precinct 09-27 in the Kentlands/Lakelands neighborhoods of Gaithersburg.   He has also served in several leadership positions for the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee, including organizing the 2004 voter protection program and co-chairing the annual Spring Ball.
