Dear Friends,
As most of you know, I have a longstanding commitment to public service. Whether it's by protecting voters' rights at the polls, fighting against racial and religious intolerance, advocating for victims of domestic violence, or helping the U.S. State Department to prosecute war criminals in The Hague, my work as a lawyer and as an activist has focused on the pursuit of justice and the development of innovative solutions to our community problems. My commitment to these and other important causes stems from my faith in the ability of diligent, good-hearted leaders to truly make a difference. I learned from my parents, my teachers, and my synagogue that it's simply not enough to live one's life. You have to make a difference by improving the lives of others. And I have spent my years as a student at the University of Maryland and Stanford Law School, and now as an attorney, working hard to make such a difference.
In the spirit of this belief, I have often thought about pursuing elected office as a vehicle for helping a larger community of people. While it doesn't always live up to its potential, government -- when properly run -- is the greatest tool we have for the uplift of our communities and the creation of a more just society. Today, with a renewed pledge to my faith in government's potential, I proudly announce the formation of my exploratory committee Friends of Ryan Spiegel. This committee is a vehicle for raising the necessary funds to be a viable future candidate in today’s political climate. With my skills, experience, and creativity, I believe I can provide effective leadership to improve our community, county, and state with respect to education, transportation, public safety, health care, the environment, and many other areas of life.

I will provide additional information on volunteer opportunities in the near future.
