Statement from City Councilman Ryan Spiegel on receiving a certificate during the Gran Festival Latino in Gaithersburg:

"I am truly honored and humbled to be recognized here in Gaithersburg during this festive summer celebration of the rich, beautiful, diverse culture of our vibrant and growing Latino Community. I am sorry that I could not accept the honor in person, but unfortunately my work obligations have required me to travel out of town. I am thankful that my good friend and fellow activist Carlos Solis is accepting on my behalf. Carlos is a true civic leader in our city, and he has the warmest heart I've ever known.

When I was elected to the Gaithersburg City Council, I was elected to represent ALL of the people of our fair city. I have made it my mission to ensure that EVERYONE, including our Latino community -- which contributes so much to the economy, culture, diversity, and spirit of faith and service to others -- enjoys the resources and opportunities provided by Gaithersburg's local government. I pledge to continue serving as a voice for you, and doing whatever I can to promote the celebration of our city's wonderful diversity, to embrace justice and equality, and to cultivate an atmosphere of inclusion. People sometimes ask me, "Can we really achieve all that?" And I answer, without a moment's hesitation, "Si se puede!"
